Our day didn't start too early, about 7.45am and the girls are still going now at 10pm, playing with presents. We all ate too much, surrounded by wrapping paper and chocolate wrappers.

Went for our mandatory walk in the evening and back to the sofa to blob and another chocolate!

A day to catch up and reflect on time and events that have gone on. Building wonderful traditions to pass on too.

Merry and Bright: A Christmas Mini

I created this Christmas mini to send overseas. Pictures from this patterned paper (Simple Stories) http://www.scrapboxnz.co.nz/shop/product_info.php?cPath=72_375&products_id=2820 were used throughout.

Maya Road mini tags (pictured above) made a simple border.

The idea with the gift album, is that the recipient adds journalling and photos.

Glimmer mist on a doily....

Lotsa little pockets and envelopes with tags to pull out.

Cosmo Cricket Tiny Type Christmas (above)- the package is flying to Canada so very fitting LOL. Paper is Echo Park (background) and Fancy Pants (die cuts).

10 things about Christmas

Your challenge this time is to create a 12 x 12 layout and on it include "10 things about Christmas".

These can be things you like and to you it wouldn't be Christmas without including them. Family get-togethers, Money Pudding in our house and having a Tree even if we are going away. They can also be things you don't like about Christmas - getting too commercial and the shops with decorations and enticements too early (end of October - crazy). The supermarket with Christmas Chocolates and Mince Pies that always seem to jump into my trolley and definitely get eaten way before they should!!!

Just a few ideas - with 10 things to list you can leave some great journalling for future generations to read about your Christmas's.

Christmas Treat Cone

Well Christmas is creeping up on us. Where has the year gone? They just keep getting faster and faster! (Sounding old- not good LOL).

Fiona has a nice range of Christmas papers in. I made a treat cone using a paper from Bella Blvd. Bright and fun!

I traced around a plate (just over half of) to get a circle for the cone.

Tag/Label Sizes?

Just had a question about the dimensions of the tag/label. Something I didn't think about, was just thinking standard shipping tag size - maybe use 6cm x 12cm as a guide. Similar size depending on the shape you are choosing for the christmas shaped tag.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

This is how it will work: All challenges will be set on the blog (hhtp://www.scrapboxnz.blogspot.com) The first one on Wednesday and the other two each Monday.

Terms and Conditions
The challenge will run for a period of just under three weeks from the 16th November and finish on the 4th December 2011. You will have one week to complete each challenge and email your entry to fiona@scrapboxnz.com by midnight the following Sunday.

Points are awarded as follows - 3 points for first, 2 points for second and 1 point for participation.

Participants will only know the current standing of the first three places at the close of each week's challenge. The participant with the most accumulated points at the end of the competition will win a $40.00 (forty dollar) gift voucher to spend at the Scrap Box NZ Store.

Each participant that completes all three projects will receive a discount voucher - my Christmas present to you!

My little girl is growing up

Paige turns 7 on Sunday and is so excited. Always wanting to get into my stash (or the shop yummies) to make cards and booklets, so I've made Paige her very own Craft Box. Her own glue, scissors, double sided tape, flowers, ribbon, stickers, the list goes on. With this is a big bag of papers & cardstock. This would be a great idea for a Christmas present for a crafty child of your own or a neice or nephew.

I've also been busy making curtains and changing duvet covers in her bedroom - that's the surprise when she comes home from school shortly. Off to make the cake for the party tomorrow. Oh to be a child again !!!

Maya Road Trims

Pink Ribbon Day

October is Breast Cancer Action month and today is Pink Ribbon Day to raise funds for research and proactive health and wellness programmes.

Out and about are over 6,000 volunteers all over the country collecting. We donated this morning at our local mall and are now proudly wearing out pink ribbons.

3 little cards !!!

Isn't it great to use up scraps and mix n match colours. Three little cards, using Martha Stewart Punches, Green Tara Flowers, Maya Road Trinket Pin and of course Bazzill Cardstock.

These last two cards the flowers are made from a serviette. Lovely and soft and you get lots of layers for making the bottom flower centre. Love these colours and together they make the cards nice and fresh looking.

The layouts are great and didn't we have fun at school - I must say I enjoyed my Primary days more than the rest. Thanks to all that have entered - Good Luck!

Must fly, I am back to school myself now to help with the American Parade that Paige's school is involved in. That's 550 students, year 0 to year 6, parading down Queen Street, Richmond, Nelson. The juniors have star hats they have made, middles are in stripes and seniors in red, white & blue. From an aerial shot the whole school looks like the American Flag. Nelson is hosting the American Rugby team and they play here against Italy tomorrow night.

The All Blacks did well on Saturday night, but for this week I'll back the American's - Go USA!!!

This past week has gone so fast and been packed with heaps of things to do. Can't believe that tomorrow will be the last day of the fortnightly challenge. I came home from my sister's house with a bag fill of Scrap Booking mags and coz today has been filled with the girls friends around, it has given me a few moments to have a look through some of them, while they played on the local playground.

We had to give Brooke her present first and then the card I made for her below after. Obviously the card would have given the present away.

I had lots of fun making this and I knew it was going to be appreciated. Googled searched for a picture of the same phone and enlarged them. Had to go with purple and lime green, her colours at the moment. Used Bazzill Cardstock - Parakeet & Pansy, Green Tara flower, Martha Stewart Starburst Punch, Maya Road Trinket Pin and finished with a spiral wound flower and sticklers to give some glitter.

"My favourite Place"

That doesn't need to be the title, just the inspiration for making a 12 x 12 layout about your favourite place. Be it a country, city, island, beach or your own backyard, show us on your layout where you love to be.

My favourite place is ParaPara Beach in Golden Bay. We have a great bach we are able to use right on the beach and we always have a great time over there. Building up lots of memories and adventure there.

It has been a refreshing change to work with purple- not a colour I lean towards. You?

For all the 3 chipboard shapes, I coloured them using ink (stamp pad), then glimmer misted the fence (irridescent gold), and added a coat of glitter to the trowel.

Birthday Season has started !!!

Do you find that birthday's come in runs sometimes. This seems to be the start of the "birthday season" for us. My girls ended up going to 12 birthday parties between them for friends last year. Below was Paige's friends birthday card I made.

I used Imaginise glitter happy birthday paper from my stash (nearly run out of this one), on Bazzill "Bubblegum" cardstock, American Crafts Glitter Cardstock in Silver for the "M" & Bigger butterfly, cut "Maddie" with my Slice Machine and have used Martha Stewart 3n1 Butterfly Punch.

The butterfly is a diecut from Papertrey Ink with ribbon wrapped around it and a Maya Road Trinket Gem Pin inserted through it. Very girly !!! Most of the products are found at Scrap Box NZ.

A Birthday Tag

I've done it again, been meaning to put more on the blog and just got caught up with other things.

Below is a tag I made for my sister's birthday. Used Kraft cardstock as the base and added wrinkled ribbon & buttons from my stashed and used the Martha Stewart Lace Heart Edger and 3n1 Butterfly punches on Admiral cardstock. The wide lace is from Green Tara sold by Scrap Box NZ - just gorgeous.

Sorry got all caught up with the shop and orders and also had my youngest home for three days sick. Just didn't get there yesterday to let you know who won the "Friends" challenge.

School Holidays ! Busy Busy Busy

It's been really busy these School Holidays. Above are the girls and myself on the Lewis Pass. We are on our way home from four days in Hamner. As you can see it was really cold and this was on Sunday the day Christchurch got lots of snow. It was snowing when we left Hamner, but nothing had settled on the ground.

Apart from our house being a bit like Picadillily Circus at times, with friend coming and going, we have had great holidays. Had the shop open both Wednesday's and was great to have new clients come and have a look. I managed to get the canvas below done for Brooke's friends birthday today! Nothing like leaving it to the last minute! The Party is tonight! LOL

I've used a canvas from Paperplus and spray painted it purple. A Kaisercraft wooden letter, again spray painted in silver. Used my Slice Machine to cut the letters for "MADISON" and finished them with dimensional magic. Butterflies from Martha Stewart Punch in cardstock and vellum with glitter bodies. Green Tara flowers with glitter brad. Had heaps of fun doing this and now need to clean up the shop with all the mess I created.

Hope you all have had successful holiday's with lots of fun. Back into routine on Monday and getting out of bed in this cold weather will be a trial.

Soar: A Mini

Here's a wee mini folks, all ready for a few pictures and journalling. I started off with two glassine envelopes, folded them in half and stitched. I then covered the stitch line with paper tape from my stash (brown dots). Most of the products can be purchased from Scrap Box NZ.

The bird on the cover is cut from Pink Paislee PP and the roses are cut from the Maya Road Organza Roses ribbon.

The mini has two pockets with a handmade tag in each.

These are the colours to use for your Colour Challenge. Finally found what I was looking for and should have guessed that it came from a Creating Keepsakes magazine. The title reads "warm up pastels with cream and brown" - warm neutrals like cream, tan and brown bring a cozy glow to your pastel colour schemes.

Use the colours for inspiration, can be brighter in hues or paler whichever you like, but your layout must only include these colours. You decide how much or little of each colour.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Well that will teach me! I enjoyed the Nelson sunshine on the weekend ( a rare event with most weekends being wet) and read too many magazines. Now I can't remember which one I saw the colour scheme in that I want to use. Should have put it aside when I saw it - never mind.

I love country mags, vintagy romantic gardens and interiors, so the colours I was wanting you to ONLY use are Aqua, Cream, Green, Brown with a hint of Pink.

It's great using up stash isn't it? Just feels kinda satisfying and resourceful. Let's face it, in a few years when we're looking back on our albums we're not going to notice! So yes this is a layout using a bit of stash. I used a sketch from 'Pencil Lines' for inspiration. I have given the photo some added pop by using 3D magic mount.

Using this paper http://www.scrapboxnz.co.nz/shop/product_info.php?products_id=2551 from the Little Boy range by Echo Park, I made Mr 2's party invites.

LOVE my Color Box chalk ink pad for distressing edges. Wouldn't be without it. I also used some of Scrap Box NZ's ribbons for the tags.

Yes it's all about little engines at the moment. I like adding an educational touch to young children's cards by putting the age they're turning on the front and the number of objects to correspond (i.e 2 trucks).

INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN'S DAY

and most countries the world over celebrate on the 1st of June each year. Children's day is a coincidence of two important events that took place in 1925.

The first was the World Conference for the well-being of children in Geneva and at the same time the Chinese consul-general in San Francisco was gathering Chinese Orphans to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival. Since both of these incidents had the well-fare of children at their core, 1st of June became International Children's Day.

Just like our own Children's Day here in New Zealand (which is celebrated on the 1st weekend in March), it is recognized as a day of activities, that start new traditions as well as continue old ones. Over 500 activities were registered to celebrate Children's Day in New Zealand
